Endodontics is concerned with the internal structures of the teeth and is required when you suffer problems with the root or soft tissue of a tooth.

The most common form of endodontic therapy is root canal treatment.

The inside of a tooth can become compromised due to disease, damage or severe decay. It occurs when bacteria attack the nerve or soft tissue, due to weakness in the external dental enamel.

If you experience any of the following symptoms, you may require a root canal treatment by one of our experienced dentists:

  • Increased sensitivity
  • Pain when eating or chewing
  • Swelling and pain in gum near affected tooth
  • Discolouration of tooth

Without appropriate treatment, you risk losing your tooth and experiencing ongoing pain.

When the root of a tooth or the soft tissue inside a tooth becomes infected, you may require root canal (or endodontic) treatment to clean and disinfect the area.

Treatment

This is an intricate and delicate procedure which entails removing the top section of your tooth to access the internal structure.

Your dentist will use thin files to eliminate the infection from the nerve, they may apply a disinfectant to clean out the interior canal and get rid of any residual bacteria.

To end the procedure, you may require crown to be placed on top of the affected the tooth so that it can be properly sealed and strengthened.

We will use local anesthetic to minimize any discomfort. If you require additional sedation, we can discuss this beforehand.
